Amy & I made some time yesterday for a walk in the park. It was a super nice day and we never really get that much time together. Anne from Nikon let me borrow her D3X for the Macy's fireworks tonight so I thought it would be a fine time to test it out and reprogram the settings. We found this little guy just standing on a branch. Like most things in NYC, he could care less that we were less than 10 feet from him. The D3X is awesome and you can see every feather. One of the best photographers in the country and good friend Joe McNally asked if Amy & I could come to his Dobbs Ferry Workshop and be character models. Amy was the model and I was the character, as you might guess. But needing a new bio head shot and wanting to just see Joe for longer than 3 minutes, we jumped at the chance. I spent 3 days with the class and Joe working through lighting solutions for all kinds of subjects, myself included. Amy clocked in 2 days while on her "vacation". We had a blast. From crazy jumping shots to one light portraits and everything in between. It was great to just sit back and watch a master at work.
I also had a camera with me and shot some production stuff and, of course, the models.
Not wanting to get too close to the class, I brought my 85 1.8 lens and shot it wide open. I almost never shoot natural light so this was tough for me. Lauren was stunning and so sweet to put up with me working through the camera settings to get usable images. Nikon D3, ISO 250, F 1.8 @ 160, +3 exposure comp. The shutter was 250 with -3 comp for the full length.
