First Firehouse in Peekskill

Firehouse%20ends.jpg

The Centennial was to be moved to another location this week. I walk by this place almost every day and marvel at the fact that no one ever restored it. Then, because it sits under the Route 9 bridge that's being replaced, Peekskill needs to move it. They say they plan to save the building. I wonder how it could be done as it was almost falling down at this point. Well, they said "It's a piece of cake" and started the process.
I watched along with many others, all of us thinking there is no way this is ever going to happen. It will surely fall down - all the time hoping it would make the move and be restored to its glory! Well, today they planned on moving it. I walked by on my way to the coffee house. I texted Amy and said they are moving it right now! Little did I know it would be the last time I would see it in one piece. Amy walked over and watched it fall as I drank my coffee. I made it back in time to see a pile of bricks on the ground almost where it once stood. It is a depressing turn of events. I am not happy... But now it is over. The tale is told. I am sorry it turned out this way. K
