They draw a large crowd. The media pit was crazy. And I wish I had brought my ear plugs.
Screaming teenage girls or the music.... Your guess?

Dave Matthews Band in Concert on NBC's "Today Show" - June 5, 2009
As many of you know I have played drums almost since I could hold sticks. I have not been playing for several years for many reasons. When people say the music is inside you I can tell you it is! I have placed it far back in my mind to concentrate all my energy into my photography. Just walking up to the Today show on Friday kicked my mind into reliving my music days! I have never seen DMB and really was not the largest fan. However, this time I heard the energy and felt sound deep inside a place I have not visited in many years. These guys are AMAZING and I went home to download the new album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King minutes after the show. It has been on my system playing non-stop since then. Just watching and hearing Carter play brought back a feeling I had almost 20 years ago. The reason I came to NYC in the first place. Thanks guys. It was a pleasure to watch, hear and photograph you.

Marilyn Models, a $7,000 Marchesa Dress and 9 hours.
Nikon D3, 105 VR lens, ISO 100, Speedotron beauty dish and kicker lights with a Lastolite Trigrip under camera right, in the studio.
Philip and I set out to make some beautiful images of this dress. It turned out to be much harder than we first thought. But then the weather cleared up and out to 5pointz we went. What a great location! Marcelia Freesz and Melo Dagault made the whole thing come to life.
Nikon D3, 24-70 lens, ISO 100, 1/1600 @ F3.5 using high speed sync and 2 SB-900 speedlights. One bounced into a Lastolite trigrip; the other off to camera right for a rim light.

Nikon Speedlight Test With Model Elizabeth
Nikon D3, ISO 200, 6.3 @ 1/250
I used 5 Nikon Speedlights for this shoot. One SB-900 on camera as a Master to trigger the other flashes. One SB-800 camera right with a full CTO. One SB-900 camera left in a xxs Chimera softbox. One SB-800 behind the bike, center of camera with a red gel. Then just one more SB-800 with a full CTO far back left of camera. The crow just flew in...

Macy's Flower Show 2009 Time Lapse
I was contracted to record a time lapse of the set-up of the Macy's Flower Show. The set up takes place overnight from 10PM to 4AM over three nights. I used a Nikon D3 and set it to photograph one frame every 20 seconds. The exposure was F4.5 at 1/30 ISO 250. Then I placed them in a Quicktime movie. You will see the 3 different views I had. Look for the lights coming on and the change in color from off to full power. Hope you like the backstage view many people never get to see.

The Hot Shoe Diaries by Joe McNally
After searching a few book stores here in Manhattan and having no luck, Amy just ordered Joe's new book, "The Hot Shoe Diaries," for me online and picked it up at the store when a new shipment came in. (She's the best.) Joe is a lighting god and a master of the small but powerful Speedlight. The concepts Joe transforms from napkin to finished works right before your eyes make you blink twice. You learn his approach to light along with tips, tricks, exposure modes, types of flash, types of light shaping tools, strategies, EV, mixing light, and as Joe says, "you name it." You get to go inside the mind of Mr. McNally (how scary) and see how he sees. A great investment for any photographer on the planet.
